Language Variation in the Dubbing Into English of the Netflix Series Baby (2018–2020) and Suburra: Blood on Rome (2017–2020)

Although standard Italian is taught from primary school and widely prevalent in the media, dialects are still spoken many households all over country. This trend captured by popular video-on-demand providers such as Netflix HBO, who diversifying their offer promoting own non-English language productions via both subtitling dubbing. article analyses how variation, particularly form of dialect slang, adapted for dubbing series Baby (2018‒2020) Suburra: Blood on Rome (2017–2020). Specifically, it examines most common translational strategies that have been implemented English. In particular, dialectal elements often translated directly or generalised, at times, with addition taboo words. Correspondingly, youth jargon largely direct translations creative additions. Despite having two different age groups centre narration, similar translation were used series. The qualitative analysis demonstrates to define social disparity, since characters involved criminality speak principally whereas wealthy students, affluent characters, politicians, churchmen draw primarily.
